Why Skipping the Intro Screen Improves the Entire App Experience

First impressions matter—but forcing users to repeat them doesn’t. Learn how removing friction after onboarding creates a smoother, more enjoyable app experience.

A great onboarding experience is essential. It helps users understand what your app does, how it works, and why it matters.

But here’s the catch: onboarding should happen once — not every time someone opens your app.

The problem with repeated intro screens

We recently received a simple but powerful piece of feedback:

Every time the app was closed and reopened, the intro screen appeared again — requiring users to swipe through multiple slides before reaching the actual app.

While this might seem like a small inconvenience, it quickly becomes frustrating in everyday use.

Users don’t want to re-learn an app they already understand.

Understanding user expectations

When someone installs an app for the first time, they expect guidance:

  • What does this app do?
  • How does it work?
  • How do I use it?

That’s exactly what an intro or onboarding flow is for — and it’s valuable.

But after that first experience, expectations change.

Users want speed. They want direct access. They want to pick up right where they left off.

Where friction begins

In our case, the intro consisted of three swipeable screens explaining how the app works.

Helpful? Yes.

But forcing users to swipe through them every time they reopened the app created unnecessary friction — especially for users who just wanted to jump back in and select a month or continue where they left off.

The simple fix that changes everything

The solution is straightforward:

  • Show the intro only once (on first launch)
  • Remember that the user has already completed it
  • Take returning users directly to the main interface

This small adjustment removes repeated effort and respects the user’s time.

What a better flow looks like

With an improved onboarding experience:

  • First-time users get a clear, guided introduction
  • Returning users skip the intro automatically
  • The app opens instantly to the main content
  • Navigation feels faster and more natural

Why this matters more than you think

User experience isn’t just about features — it’s about flow.

Even small interruptions can make an app feel slower, more complicated, or less enjoyable than it actually is.

By removing unnecessary steps, you create a product that feels intuitive and effortless.

We’re constantly improving the experience based on real feedback like this. If you want a smoother, more focused way to manage your content without friction, now is the perfect time to try the latest version of our app.
